The article “A Resumption of Canonization after Centuries-Long Hiatus: The Armenian Genocide through the Lens of Neo-martyrdom” by Shushan Khachatryan, Ph.D., Head of AGMI Department of Armenian Genocide Victims’ Documentation and Data Collection, has been published in the prestigious Scrinium: Journal of Patrology and Critical Hagiography (Editor-in-Chief: Vadim (Vasily) Lurie), a top-tier (1st Quartile) journal indexed in major academic databases.
In this article, the author examines the collective canonization ceremony of the martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, which took place on April 23, 2015, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The article explores the 100-year journey from 1915 to 2015, uncovering the connection between the historical memory of the Armenian Genocide, theological reflections, and martyrdom in Armenian self-identity. The martyrs of the Armenian Genocide represent a distinct group of new martyrs within Christian theology, and the study gains significance from this perspective as well.
We congratulate our colleague and wish her continued success in her endeavors.
