THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM TO REMAIN OPEN DURING RENOVATION

08.10.2024

Renovation of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex will commence in October 2024, funded by the state budget of Armenia. The project will proceed in two main stages to ensure that commemorative events and activities are not disrupted, as 2025 marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

In the first phase, improvements will focus on the irrigation system for the green spaces surrounding the Memorial, including the installation of a drip irrigation system. This phase also includes the construction of a reservoir and a pumping station.

During the initial construction of the Memorial and previous renovations, drainage systems were not installed, which led to rainwater seepage, erosion of structural supports, and leaning pillars—posing risks of rockfalls.

There are also drainage issues within the Museum-Institute itself. The first phase aims to resolve these issues and will be completed in time for the 110th-anniversary commemorations.

The second phase, starting in mid-2025, will focus on renovating the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and its administrative building.

The total state funding for the renovation is approximately 743 million AMD. "Bedeck" Construction Company (LTD) won the open tender announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports as the sole participant.

Technical quality control will be handled by "Seismshin" LTD, while "Armproject" OJSC will oversee design supervision. The renovation board is led by Sashur Kalashyan, an honored architect of the Republic of Armenia and one of the original co-authors of the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and Museum-Institute.

Both the Museum and Memorial will remain open to visitors and official delegations throughout the renovation.
