Within the framework of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide the Leaders of the Republic visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial

09.12.2019

On 9 December, on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime, President Armen Sarkissian, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and paid tribute to the memory of the innocent martyrs.

The high-ranking guests were accompanied by AGMI Director Harutyun Marutyan.

International community commemorates December 9 as an International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide. On 9 December 1948, the UN adopted a Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and on 11 September 2015, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 69/323, declaring December 9 as an International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide. The resolution was submitted by Armenia's Permanent Representation to the UN, and adopted unanimously, supported by more than 80 Member States. It encourages the international community to raise awareness about the Convention on the “Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” and to commemorate the victims of the genocides.
