The topic “Issues of the Armenian Genocide” has already been included in two schools in Armenia

27.11.2024

The topic “Issues of the Armenian Genocide”, created at the initiative of the “Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute” Foundation and guaranteed by Order 878-A/2 of the Minister of Education, Science and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan dated June 13, 2023, has already been introduced in two schools.

Margarit Karapetyan, a teacher at Talin High School, was the first to initiate the introduction of the course “Issues of the Armenian Genocide” at Talin High School in September of last year. This year, she shared her experience with teachers participating in the three-day summer school titled “Teaching the Topic of the Armenian Genocide” organized by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute (AGMI) for teachers of Armenian history. Thanks to the efforts of Gayane Siradeghyan, a teacher at the H. Barseghyan Secondary School in Voskepar and a participant in AGMI’s educational programs, the course was also introduced at the H. Barseghyan Secondary School in Voskepar starting this September.

The course "Issues of the Armenian Genocide" is designed for 11th-grade students in general education schools. Its purpose is to help students comprehensively study the issues surrounding the Armenian Genocide. Teaching the Armenian Genocide to high school students in the Republic of Armenia will significantly contribute to their acquisition of proper knowledge about the greatest tragedy of the Armenian people, its causes, course, and consequences, as well as the formation of a dignified civic stance. Teaching the Armenian Genocide is not merely about imparting knowledge to students; it is also about providing broad national and civic education in the fullest sense of the term.

Teachers and school principals who wish to introduce the course “Issues of the Armenian Genocide” in their schools must contact the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports to obtain permission.
