A conference titled "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Turkish-Azerbaijani Armenophobia" was held in the AGMI conference hall on May 30-31. Researchers from the AGMI, RA NAS Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography, Matenadaran, Armeno-Russian (Slavonic) University’s Institute of Oriental Studies and the Armenian Association for Analytical Psychology participated.

The event was part of the RA MօESCS Higher Education and Science Committee's scientific theme "The origins, current state, and objectives of Turkish-Azerbaijani Armenophobia (interdisciplinary approaches)."

Dr. Edita Gzoyan, Director of AGMI highlighted, in her opening speech, that while previous studies have always discussed various manifestations of anti-Armenian sentiment and Armenophobia, this was the first time that a conference took an interdisciplinary approach to the subject.

Dr. Shushan Khachatryan, head of AGMI Department for the Armenian Genocide Victims’ Documentation and Data Collection and director of the scientific theme, stressed the importance of determining the appropriate terminology to describe the historic and ongoing violence towards the Armenians.

The conference’s starting point was a presentation on the chronology and historical instances of Turkish-Azerbaijani violence, genocide, and genocidal acts, spanning the period from the 19th century violence against Armenians in Zeytun to the 2023 genocide in Artsakh.

Nineteen reports were presented over two days. These were followed by an exchange of ideas and discussions on follow-up actions. It was agreed to produce a bilingual report based on those presented, with concrete examples.

This will be distributed to various Armenian and international institutions to illustrate different aspects of Turkish-Azerbaijani Armenophobia.
