After escalating criticism from the Armenian American community for his role in obstructing an article on the Armenian Genocide this April and his discriminatory behavior against Armenian American reporters, Los Angeles Times Managing Editor Douglas Frantz has resigned effective July 6th and will be returning to Istanbul, reported the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region (ANCA-WR).

The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) held its seventh biennial meeting in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 9-13 July 2007, hosted by the University of Sarajevo's Institute for Research into Crimes against Humanity and International Law.

The International Association of Genocide Scholars is a global, interdisciplinary, non-partisan organization that seeks to further research and teaching about the nature, causes, and consequences of genocide, and advance policy studies on prevention of genocide.

Since the establishment in 1994, the IASG is organizing biennial conferences to review comparable research, significant new work, study of specific phenomena, correlation between gen ocide and mass violation of human rights, and prevention and penalization of genocide.

The aim of the Association is to focus more intensively on questions of genocide than is possible in the existing two-hour format of most conferences and to draw colleagues from different disciplines into an interdisciplinary conversation. Membership is open to scholars, graduate students, and other interested persons worldwide. The Association is an autonomous affiliate of The Institute for the Study of Genocide.

President of IASG is prof. dr. Israel W. Charny, the Vice-President and the Conference Director is prof. dr. Greg Stanton, and the President of the Program Board is prof. dr. Alex Hinton.

The Director of the Armenian Genocide Musuem & Institute, Hayk Demoyan, also participated in the 7th Biennial Meeting of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS).
